looking for input from users of rear blowers. first why did you decide on a rear vs a front blower? do they work well? are they difficult to use? do you get uncomfortable blowing snow moving and turned backwards? do you need a hydraulic directional? do you use it with the FEL on the front?
trying to decide to get a front or rear blower.

I have a 2003 7500 hst with ldr. Just purchased a 54" 3pth
pronovost blower. I didn't think backing up was a big deal, as 1/2 the time your on your tractor,your backing up, un less mowing. The big difference for me was the price and I wanted my bucket to move snow and scape the ice. I added a 6" cutting edge to mine.
I have a 200' paved drive with a 50'x50' parking area, I expect it to take me about 15 min. 10- 15 times a year.
15000-1800 can buy more tractor stuff!

A front blower wasn't a starter for me since I don't have a mid-pto. The price and problems of a conversion were too much. I do about 600' of drive plus yard and parking, and I don't mind turning around although I could go faster forward. An advantage of a 3ph blower is that I can use both the blower and loader without swapping anything--and I use both of them a lot.
I wouldn't be without hydraulic chute rotation since I have to blow going between buildings and vehicles, avoid covering my wife's paths and making sure I don't blow snow across the highway. I already had a rear outlet so my choice was simple. There are electrically rotated ones and I don't know how convenient mechanical ones are. I just know that I need to make frequent and fairly precise adjustments. ....

Twenty years ago I thought who would want to spend the extra money for a front mount snow blower! I still sold them and I did my best to talk people out of wasting there money and instead put a loader on the front, it's a year around tool!! While I still don't know what I going to clean my driveway with this winter but after last winter I do hope it is front mount as my neck still has a rough spot that I put it to last winters blowing. There was much wrong with my system for cleaning as I have to blow several ways. I didn't have hydraulic turn so in order to rotatate the spout I had to keep stoping to raise and adjust. When I adjusted the crank out so I could do it with the blower down it hit me in the back when I reaised it. The tractor didn't have an independent pto so when I got to the banks I had to use the hydraulic forward reverser at near full throttle(yuk) to keep from plugging.. Give me the electric or hydraulic controls and I do prefer front mount. I still hate the thoughts of the loss of the loader! Little differences that I have found, I will put a good cutting edge on the blower to scrape the blacktop down as often it gets packed a bit before I can get home to clean it. The three point unit you can do just like a blade and make it very aggressive this way where on a front mount I still add the edge but the ability to change the angle isn't there on many front units. Remember, with a blower you don't make banks! So there is nothing to make it get deep where you clean other than nature, if you use a loader it starts banks and the easiest way I found to beat them is don't make them! ....

The first thing you need to tell us is:
1) how long your driveway is?
2) how big are the parking areas?
3) what kind of grade you have?
In my opinion
1) drive lengths:
-under 200 rear blower front loader excellent choice
-up to 400 rear blower front loader moderately uncomfortatble
-up to 600 may still use rear but must have compelling use for loader
2) parking areas:
-under 50 x 50 rear blower OK
-over 50x 50 Front blower better
3) slopes under 5% rear over 5% front
....

Some not to bad of rules to go by Dennis! I do think a 600' with bends totally warrants front mount. One other thing, to study the wind so you can better see which way to blow for less clean-up work. ....

Hmmm, I think I see an opportunity for a reasonably-priced gearbox & driveshaft system to allow a person to use a conventional blower in the front of their CUT....
Line up forms to the left please gentlemen ......

so what do I do if I have a 200x20 drive with a 5-10% slope and a 30x30 parking area at the end and another drive that's 60x20 with a 30x15 parking area?
if the 4 way valve on the '04 FEL stays on the tractor making it easier and quicker to attach/detach, should I go with the front blower?
